Syllable Server Downloads
If you are looking for a Syllable Desktop system distribution, or you are unsure what to download, please go to the How to Get Syllable page.
If you are looking for software for Syllable Desktop, go here. Binary software packages for Syllable Server do not run on Syllable Desktop, and the other way around (with the exception of some text scripts).
The following is the most current software for Syllable Server.
Here is the Syllable Server installation package. It's a Zip archive of 92 MB:
Syllable Server 0.4 torrent download (preferred)
Syllable Server 0.4 regular download
Please use the torrent download with a BitTorrent client if you can. This saves us traffic costs. We also appreciate it a lot if you leave your BitTorrent client running when you are done with the download, so others can keep downloading it from you.
Please read the documentation before trying to install:
Installation and usage instructions
If you want to compile software on Syllable, you need to install an extra package with additional development files (static libraries and accompanying headers that are part of system components):
Syllable Server 0.4 development files
First unzip the package:
Now go into the unpacked folder:
Please review the
(Please note that you cannot use these development files with any other version of Syllable. Contrary to other software for Syllable, the development files must match the Syllable system version exactly. If you upgrade your system, you must also install the new development files to keep using them.)
To enable you to try Syllable Server without installation, two preconfigured virtual machine images are available. One is for VMware. It can also be used with QEmu and VirtualBox. It's a 7-Zip archive of 82 MB:
Syllable Server 0.1 VMware image, torrent download (preferred)
Syllable Server 0.1 VMware image, regular download
The other image is for other emulators such as Bochs, or also QEmu. It's a 7-Zip archive of 81 MB. Please note that it unpacks to a file of one gigabyte:
Syllable Server 0.1 raw image, torrent download (preferred)
Syllable Server 0.1 raw image, regular download
The start menu of the images provides configurations for several emulators.
Please use the torrent downloads if you can.
You need the 7-Zip compression tool to unpack the archives.

Installation and usage instructions
Syllable-style applications are not available for Syllable Server yet. All applications from Syllable Desktop will become available for Syllable Server once the Syllable graphical environment is ported to Syllable Server.
Some packages are released as part of larger collection packs. They are focused on a particular field of use, so you can conveniently get all the packages you need for a task at once. The current packs contain only resource packages (see the following section). They are compressed with the Zip program. You will find the individual packages and a README file with instructions inside. The collection packs include an installation script that allows you to install all packages in one go. You can do this from the command prompt console by typing the following commands.
First unpack the package in a working directory. If you didn't put the package in your home directory, but for example on the desktop, you should go there:
Now unpack the package, using its file name:
The contents of the pack is in a folder with the same name as the pack. Go into this folder:
Now run the installation script under the system/super user account:
You will be asked for confirmation. If packages that are in the collection pack were already installed, they will be replaced with the versions from the pack.
Please note that at times, newer versions of single packages in the collection packs will be available as separate downloads in the list of resource packages.
The following is the main list of what we call resource packages. They need to be available in the system in a known place. Most of them contain programs from third parties that were ported over to Syllable. Many of them are programs that must be used in text mode on the command prompt, or library packages that other packages need. Resource packages released by the Syllable project are compressed with the Zip program and should be installed in a fixed place: in the

There is more software available that is not listed here, because no binary installation packages have been released. With some effort, these packages can be built from their source code.
